Testosterone Profilei-i TFP/TMP in the male,
Testosterone levels show steady decline or decrement with each additional
decade of life (1,2). Furthermore,Testosterone in both males and females
shows morning values averaging 42-50% higher than night values (3). The
panels accommodate this diurnal variation by using two samples, a morning
and a night specimen. There is also variability from day to day in Testosterone
levels. Variation in physiological and social stress can shift the concentrations
significantly (4,5) from the genetically determined levels (5). Therefore,
a single day sampling is not sufficient to determine a reliable baseline.
This panel accommodates daily variability by providing a second set of
measurements performed on samples collected 5 to 7 days after the first
set. Values that are sufficiently separated in time are less likely to
be affected by identical artifacts or transient events, and temporary
highs and lows will tend to cancel each other.
Specimens Four saliva specimens used in this profile are scheduled as
follows:
õ The 1st Sample is collected on any day between 6-9 AM.
õ The 2nd Sample is collected the same day between 9-11 PM.
õ The 3rd Sample and 4th Sample are respectively collected on xiithe same
day, 5-7 days later, between 6-9 AM and 9-11 PM.
Target Population & Clinical Use This test can be performed in both males
and females over the age of 14. It is suitable in the following situations:
õ Libido Problems
õ Hirsutism
õ Androgen
Therapy
õ Athletic Conditioning
õ Gender Problems & Virilization
