Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Do you know breast cancer survivors or anyone at increased risk of developing breast cancer?
Research shows that they might be applying estrogens to their skin daily.
Yes, personal care products, including cosmetics, moisturizers, creams, and lotions, may contain estrogens and other bioidentical hormones without listing them as ingredients. Screening for unintentional exposure to bioidentical hormones is one of the many benefits of saliva hormone testing.

Top Test Panel Spotlight: The Expanded Post Menopause Hormone Panel
The Expanded Post Menopause Hormone Panel directly measures the free hormone levels that may contribute to common menopausal symptoms with a single, convenient saliva sample. The comprehensive panel includes:
-
Three forms of estrogen:
-
Estrone (E1) – The predominant estrogen in postmenopausal women. A significant portion of estrone production occurs in adipose tissue.
-
Estradiol (E2) – Produced in the ovaries, adipocytes, and adrenal glands, this form of estrogen is the most potent. Estradiol levels decrease after menopause, which may contribute to bone loss, hot flashes, weight gain, and other symptoms.
-
Estriol (E3) – Measuring levels of estriol is important for evaluating overall estrogen status and estrogen metabolism.
-
-
Progesterone – Produced by the adrenal glands and in the ovaries, progesterone levels significantly decline with menopause. Progesterone is a precursor for the production of many steroid hormones and plays a crucial role in maintaining optimal cognitive function, immune health, skin health, bone remodeling, and other physiologic processes.
-
DHEA – DHEA is produced in the adrenal glands and is a precursor for the estrogens and testosterone.
-
Testosterone – Often considered a male hormone, testosterone plays a crucial role in maintaining muscle mass, bone density, metabolism, energy levels, and libido. An elevated free (saliva) testosterone level is associated with symptoms such as hair loss, acne, and facial hair growth during menopause.
-
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) – FSH is released from the pituitary gland in the brain and regulates estradiol production by the ovaries. An increase in FSH can be one of the earliest signs of menopause and is associated with weight gain and bone loss.
-
Luteinizing hormone (LH) – LH is a pituitary hormone that regulates progesterone production and induces ovulation. An elevated LH level is associated with dementia and other health concerns.
