Ascariasis, caused by Ascaris lumbricoides, often presents with no symptoms. However, as larvae migrate from the intestines to the liver, lungs, and back to the intestines, a wide range of symptoms may occur.

The diagnostic gold standard for detecting Ascaris lumbricoides is stool microscopy. Because parasites are not shed consistently, a three-sample collection (O&P x3) on different days is recommended.
