Diabetes Awareness Month

Nearly 1 in 6 adults in the US has diabetes. Help your patients prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) by testing for and treating insulin resistance. A study of over 6,200 American non-diabetic adults discovered that 40% had diagnosable insulin resistance, and nearly half of those with insulin resistance were not obese.

Insulin resistance can progress to prediabetes and, if left unmanaged, T2DM. Stop the progression towards T2DM by screening all patients for insulin resistance.

Patients can reverse insulin resistance if caught early with functional laboratory testing.

Top Test Panel Spotlight:

Insulin Panel

Did you know that excessive insulin production blocks lipolysis and ketosis? Adipose tissue is neither efficiently broken down nor used for energy when insulin is elevated. Rather, insulin induces the formation of adipose tissue, as depicted below.

Conveniently screen for excessive insulin production and insulin resistance with our Insulin Panel.

The DiagnosTechs Insulin Panel includes two saliva insulin tests with clinically useful reference ranges – fasting insulin (ISN1) & non-fasting insulin (ISN2). The Insulin Panel is also included in the following test panels:

Dive deeper by combining traditional blood glucose testing — including fasting, random, or continuous — with functional, convenient, and painless saliva insulin testing to screen for insulin resistance and prevent T2DM. The reference ranges for DiagnosTechs’ fasting and non-fasting saliva insulin tests are ideal for health optimization, and patients can collect saliva samples in the comfort of their homes.

November News Article:

Prevent & Treat Insulin Resistance with Magnesium

Low magnesium levels contribute to the development of both hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance. Hyperinsulinemia also increases urinary magnesium excretion. Therefore, a low magnesium level could rapidly become critically low in the presence of excessive insulin.

Research suggests that optimal magnesium levels may prevent insulin resistance by:

  • Supporting the activity of numerous Mg-ATP complex-dependent enzymes involved in glucose metabolism
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Normalizing cholesterol levels
  • Improving glucose metabolism in the liver
  • Optimizing calcium signaling
  • Limiting the accumulation of adipose tissue
  • Affecting the amount of insulin released
  • Modulating glucose receptor gene expression

A systematic review concluded that increasing magnesium intake by 50 mg per day leads to a 4.35% decrease in HOMA-IR scores and a 3.05% reduction in fasting glucose levels.
